Troubleshooting: NAT Type & Strict Network
Troubleshooting: NAT Type & Strict Network
How NAT Type affects REANIMAL Online Co-op and how to fix it.
What is NAT Type?
Network Address Translation (NAT) determines how your router connects to the internet.
Open (Type 1)
: Can host/join anyone. Best.
Moderate (Type 2)
: Can connect to most players, might have trouble hosting.
Strict (Type 3)
: Only connect to Open NAT hosts. Common cause of "Can't Join" errors.
How to Check NAT Type (All Platforms)
PC
: In Windows Settings > Gaming > Xbox Networking. Or check your Router Admin page.
PlayStation
: Settings > Network > Connection Status > View Connection Status.
Xbox
: Settings > General > Network Settings > Test NAT Type.
How to Fix Strict NAT
Enable UPnP
: Universal Plug and Play (in Router settings). Easiest fix.
Port Forwarding
: Manually forward ports for REANIMAL/Platform service.
DMZ
: Put your console/PC in the DMZ (advanced users only, bypasses firewall).
